@ Doug, @Minter Good points. Also, the new FB "like" button really gives Facebook quite a bit of leverage over traffic to brands. Is this good for brands in the long run (strategically)? How much market power are they ceding to FB in the process? Interesting that Burberry moved part of its FB site into its own Art of the Trench site, where it controls the experience (with help from Facebook Connect.)

For many businesses, I can see why they should not even bother with their own website and just create a fan page on Facebook, allowing them to benefit from the PR10, with loads of embedded easy-to-use and free functionality. Having your own URL redirect to the FB page is perhaps an even better idea as it means that, you remain, at least in part, owner of the traffic history and can repossess your the RSS etc if you then choose to "go it alone"...

Companies that do go with an FB page need to make sure their back office is ready to react and participate...

Thanks for this Brian. There is an awesome "leveling effect' in the fan page realm isn't there? We've often remarked to clients and internally alike that "Fans are probably the toughest thing to earn in the interactive/conversational marketing world" Brands have to truly rise above and do more in the Facebook Fan Page universe.
